Madam Halimah Yacob

Madam Halimah Yacob

Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore

Member of Parliament, Jurong GRC (2001 - Present)

Student of TKGS, 1972 - 1973

After completing her primary and secondary education at SCGS, Madam Halimah went to TKGS for her pre-university education and spent three memorable years there. She has fond memories of the fun and the good friends that she had during her Pre-U days in TKGS.

In the past decade, Mdm Halimah has returned to TKGS several times to grace significant school events, such as the unveiling of the TKGS Values Quilts Wall in 2007. She has this message for present TK girls: “Aim for the sky, so that if at least you manage to reach the trees you would have achieved something. As a poor kid helping my mum to sell food outside the old Singapore Polytechnic at Prince Edward Road, I never thought that I could come this far. Preserve, work hard and pursue your dreams. Some days you will succeed.”

On 29 jun 2013, Mdm Halimah celebrated the 60th Anniversary with 500 TKGS students, staff, alumni and partners at Raffles Town Club.
